You are a nurse who travels.  You are making a real difference in peoples’ lives and gaining valuable career experience.  Chances are though, you are also a curious explorer! After all, living in new places, meeting new people and trying new things is an AMAZING perk of the job.

So, how would you feel about exploring a city full of sunshine, without the extreme heat?  Would you enjoy living in an ethnically and culturally diverse city with a lower than average cost of living?   Can you picture yourself strolling beside a river, veering off into historic shopping areas to discover independent boutiques and coffee shops?   Would you adore living just a stone’s throw away from some of Colorado’s most gorgeous National Parks? If the answer is yes and yes, then pack your scrubs and head to Pueblo!

Hospitals in Pueblo

Pueblo boasts two major hospitals, both wonderfully located: St Mary-Corwin Medical Center, a general hospital in the south of the city, and Parkview Medical Center, a private hospital in the north.  Concentrating on cancer care and orthopaedic services, St Mary-Corwin sits on the banks of Lake Minnequa, an open space with a basketball court, bike trails, a football field, walking tracks and picnic areas.  Providing the only certified and verified Level II Trauma Center in the region, Parkview, as the name suggests, overlooks Mineral Palace Park, a sculpted green area of almost 60 acres containing a swimming pool/water park, grill and picnic areas.

Activities in Pueblo, Colorado

Should you opt for an assignment in either of these fantastic facilities, your colleagues are sure to be full of recommendations of interesting places to go and exciting things to do in and around Pueblo.  The City Park is home to Pueblo Zoo, whilst the Pueblo Riverwalk is an urban waterfront of boat rides, shopping, dining, coffees and cocktails all surrounded by beautiful scenery. Art is showcased along the river’s banks, and June to September brings the added delight of a Farmer’s Market and Movie Nights on the River.

After Kayaking, fly fishing, hiking or biking at Lake Pueblo State Park, why not enjoy a meal at one of the many diverse restaurants in Pueblo?  Plenty have integrated locally-grown chiles into their menus, tantalising the taste buds of locals and those drawn to the heat from far and wide!  Golfers will be delighted by the 4-star rated Walking Stick Golf Course and the city owned Elmwood Golf Course.  Loaf ‘N Jug’s Chile and Frijoles Festival is held annually in Pueblo, attracting over 100,000 music loving chile aficionados.  But it doesn’t stop there! The Colorado State Fair is also held annually, as well as the Steel City Brew Fest and the brilliant Boats, Bands and BBQ Festival.

Acommodation in Pueblo, Colorado

Even with so much time spent soaking up the wonders of the city, you’ll still want to feel settled and comfortable in a new home.  So many amazing colleagues decide they dislike travel nursing primarily because their accommodation sucks, but this will never be the case in Pueblo.  Based in the city, Kingdom Homes Group specialises in providing quality accommodation for professionals who may need a residence for a few days, weeks or months.  Whilst using agency housing can seem nice and straightforward, nothing in travel nursing is ‘free’ and it’s painful to watch such a large chunk of cash leave your pay check for a space you didn’t choose yourself!  Then there’s that underlying worry that they’re being helpful just to fill the nursing position and get their commission. Kingdom Homes Group takes all of the stress of a property search away, with no ulterior motive.  You can browse their website yourself for a that perfect spot, or simply join their waiting list and let them look for you!  From private rooms in shared accommodation to self-contained studios to houses, many of their places are fully furnished and include bills, plus they fully understand the distance and traffic between your work and home.  Joining their Facebook page keeps you up to date with the accommodation on offer and is a quick and easy way to get in touch with their team, who are more than happy to give advice and support for your relocation.

Being a travel nurse may not be for everyone, but it definitely IS for those seeking adventure…and Pueblo beckons!  Open your eyes to the unique culture of a city full of life, where the sun shines through the hospital windows, the glorious kingdom of Colorado beckons just beyond its doors, and the people make you feel right at home.  And with a home you love taken care of by Kingdom Homes group, who knows?  Maybe you’ll decide to extend this contract!
